Sanaa Barnes of Northwest Nelson TX is building upon her appearance last summer at the Pan Am U-20 Championships in Peru.

The Villanova-bound senior commit jumped 5 feet, 10 inches Friday to win her second Texas Relays high jump title and she beat an elite field to do it.

"Coming in, I knew it was going to be tough this year," Barnes said. "There were a lot of jumpers at 5-10 and 5-11, and I was prepared for that."

Barnes hopes to clear 6 feet soon and has an eye on qualifying for the IAAF World U-20 Championships this summer.

Barnes defeated Alyssa Miller of McKinney Boyd TX, who also jumped 5-10. Barnes cleared 5-8 on her first attempt and Miller needed three tries.

Anna Hall of Valor Christian CO, the New Balance Nationals Indoor champion, and Rachel Glenn of Long Beach Wilson CA, the national leader coming into the weekend at 5-11, both bowed out at 5-6.
